Google can now show you how people find your Instagram content: What beauty professionals need to know

If you use Instagram, TikTok or YouTube to promote your beauty business, there is an important Google update worth knowing about.

Google Search Console is introducing the ability for eligible users to connect certain social media accounts and see how their social content is being discovered through Google Search.

For beauty therapists, salon owners, aesthetics practitioners and beauty professionals who regularly create social media content, this could provide valuable information about what potential clients are actually searching for online.

And that matters.

Because Instagram is no longer just about being discovered by somebody scrolling through Instagram.

Your social media content can also appear in Google Search.

Can Instagram posts appear in Google Search?

Yes. Google increasingly displays social media content, including short-form videos and posts, within its search results.

That means someone searching for:

  • best facial for mature skin
  • microneedling for acne scarring
  • electrolysis for facial hair
  • how long does a lash lift last
  • what happens after a chemical peel
  • massage for back pain
  • beauty salon near me

could potentially find an Instagram Reel, TikTok or YouTube video relating to that search.

For beauty businesses, this means social media and SEO are becoming increasingly connected.

A Reel isn't necessarily something that gets engagement for a few days and then disappears.

Useful social media content may continue to be found by people searching Google weeks or even months after you published it.

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free Google tool that helps website owners understand how they are being found through Google Search.

Traditionally, it's mainly been used to monitor website SEO.

It can show information such as:

  • what people typed into Google before finding your website
  • which pages receive clicks from Google
  • how often your website appears in search results
  • which search terms are bringing people to you.

Google is now extending some of that insight to social and video content through what it calls platform properties.

This means eligible businesses and creators can gain a better understanding of how their social media content performs within Google.

Why should beauty professionals care?

Most beauty businesses spend a considerable amount of time creating social media content.

  • You photograph treatments.
  • Record Reels.
  • Write captions.
  • Create before-and-afters.
  • Answer client questions.
  • Explain treatments.
  • Demonstrate techniques.

But there's one problem.

We often don't know which of those subjects potential clients are actively searching for.

Search Console data can begin to provide that information.

Instead of constantly wondering “What should I post on Instagram?”

you can start looking at what people are already searching for.

That's a far more useful starting point for your beauty business marketing.

Find out what potential beauty clients are searching for

One of the biggest benefits of Google Search Console is being able to see the search terms people use before discovering your content.

Imagine you are a skin therapist and discover people are finding one of your videos after searching “Can I have microneedling after Botox?”

That tells you there's genuine interest in the subject.

Rather than creating one post and moving on, you could turn that question into several pieces of content.

For example:

  • an Instagram Reel
  • an Instagram carousel
  • a website FAQ
  • a blog article
  • an email to your clients
  • another video answering related questions.

One client question can potentially become an entire bank of beauty business content.

More importantly, you know the subject is something people are actually searching for.

Use the words your beauty clients are using

There's another important SEO benefit.

Beauty professionals often use different terminology from their clients.

You may talk about post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Your potential client may search “How do I get rid of dark marks after spots?”

You may use the term onycholysis.

Your client may type “Why is my nail lifting?”

You may talk about telangiectasia.

Your client may search “small red veins on my face.”

Understanding how potential clients phrase their questions can help you create much more effective beauty marketing.

You can then incorporate those words and questions naturally into your:

  • Instagram captions
  • Reel titles
  • website content
  • beauty treatment pages
  • blogs
  • FAQs
  • YouTube videos
  • course content.

Good SEO isn't simply about stuffing keywords into a website.

It's about understanding what your audience is looking for and creating genuinely useful content that answers that search.

Discover which Instagram Reels are being found on Google

You might have an Instagram Reel you posted months ago that you have almost forgotten about.

But Google hasn't necessarily forgotten about it.

Some subjects become relevant again because of:

  • seasonal changes
  • beauty trends
  • media coverage
  • celebrity treatments
  • changes in legislation
  • new products
  • holidays or events.

An older post could therefore suddenly begin attracting more Google searches.

If you can see that happening, you have an opportunity.

You could update the post, reshare it, create a follow-up or produce more content about the same subject.

This is much smarter than constantly creating new content simply because you feel you haven't posted enough this week.

Find better Instagram content ideas for your beauty business

One of the most common challenges beauty professionals face with social media is knowing what to talk about.

The temptation is to look at what everybody else in the industry is posting and create something similar.

But your clients' Google searches can give you much better ideas.

If people are repeatedly searching for questions about:

  • microneedling downtime
  • electrolysis versus laser hair removal
  • how long lash extensions last
  • what to expect after a chemical peel
  • whether massage should hurt
  • skincare during menopause
  • treatments for pigmentation

those searches are effectively telling you what your audience wants help with.

That gives you the opportunity to create educational beauty content based on real client questions.

And educational content is particularly valuable because it demonstrates your knowledge before the client ever contacts you.

Use Google Search Console to improve your beauty business SEO

This is where things become particularly interesting.

Social media content and website SEO don't need to operate separately.

Imagine one of your Instagram videos starts attracting Google traffic for “electrolysis for chin hair.”

That could tell you that the subject deserves more attention on your website.

You might then create:

A detailed treatment page: Electrolysis for Facial Hair

A blog: Does Electrolysis Permanently Remove Chin Hair?

An FAQ: How many electrolysis treatments will I need?

Social content: What happens during your first electrolysis appointment?

Suddenly, one search query has helped shape your website, blog and social media strategy.

That's a much more joined-up approach to marketing your beauty business.

Compare which types of social media content perform best

Google Search Console may also help you identify whether different content formats are performing differently.

For example, you may discover that your educational Instagram Reels are receiving far more Google visibility than static posts.

Or perhaps detailed YouTube videos are bringing people to you long after they were originally published.

That information can help you decide where your time is best spent.

Because there's little value in spending hours every week creating a particular type of content simply because somebody has told you that you “should”.

Look at what is actually working.

Social media content can have a much longer life than you think

Beauty businesses sometimes treat Instagram content as disposable.

  • Post it.
  • Get a few likes.
  • Move on.

But search changes that.

A useful answer to a client question could potentially continue attracting people through Google long after it's disappeared from your followers' Instagram feeds.

This is another reason I encourage beauty professionals to create more evergreen educational content.

Instead of only posting “Appointments available this Friday!”

think about questions potential clients may still be searching for six months from now.

For example:

  • Does microneedling hurt?
  • How often should I have a facial?
  • Can electrolysis treat grey hair?
  • What should I avoid after a chemical peel?
  • How long does a lash lift last?

These are questions with a much longer lifespan.

Could this help you attract more beauty clients?

Potentially, yes.

But connecting your social account to Google Search Console isn't going to magically push your Instagram posts to the top of Google.

The real benefit is the information.

It can help you understand:

  • what potential clients are searching for
  • which subjects are generating interest
  • which social posts are being discovered
  • which content deserves to be expanded
  • which questions should become blogs or website content
  • which terminology your clients actually use.

You can then use those insights to make better decisions about your beauty business marketing.

Stop creating content just for the sake of posting

There's enormous pressure on beauty professionals to constantly create content.

  • Post every day.
  • Make more Reels.
  • Follow the latest trend.
  • Use the latest audio.
  • Create another carousel.

But more content doesn't automatically mean more clients.

Useful content is far more valuable.

If Google is showing you that potential clients are actively searching for a particular beauty question or treatment, that is information worth using.

Instead of asking “What can I post today?”

start asking “What does my potential client need an answer to?”

That's a much stronger basis for both your social media strategy and your SEO.
