Microneedling Training Course

Learn how to deliver safe, effective and professionally planned microneedling treatments with a combination of comprehensive theory and hands-on practical training.
Microneedling uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries within the skin. These controlled injuries stimulate the skin’s natural wound-healing response and the processes involved in tissue repair and remodelling, including collagen production.
The important word is controlled.
Good microneedling is not simply a case of taking a pen and passing it over the skin. Treatment results and client safety depend on correct consultation, skin assessment, treatment planning, infection control, appropriate treatment depth and technique, recognising the correct treatment endpoint and giving effective aftercare.
That is what this course teaches.
What can Microneedling be used for?
Microneedling may be used to improve the appearance of:
- fine lines and some wrinkles
- photoaged skin
- uneven skin texture
- enlarged or visible pores
- selected atrophic acne scars
- other suitable mature scars
- stretch marks
- general loss of firmness and skin quality
- some carefully assessed pigmentation concerns
Results develop gradually as the skin repairs and remodels following treatment.
Microneedling cannot completely remove scars, replace facial volume, change bone structure, stop muscular movement or guarantee a particular result. A significant part of good treatment planning is knowing what microneedling can realistically achieve — and when another treatment or referral may be more appropriate.
A course designed around safe, professional practice
This course goes considerably further than simply teaching you how to operate a microneedling pen.
You will learn the underpinning knowledge required to understand how the treatment works, how to assess whether a client is suitable and how to plan and perform treatment safely.
The practical element then allows you to put that knowledge into practice under supervision.
Course structure
The course consists of:
Home Study
Complete the underpinning theory before attending your practical training.
One-Day Practical Training
A full day focused on consultation, treatment planning, device setup, treatment depth, technique, treatment endpoints, aftercare and safe working.
Three Case Studies
Following training, you will complete three case studies to demonstrate that you can assess, plan, perform and evaluate microneedling treatments safely and consistently.
What you will learn
The course covers:
- how microneedling works
- skin structure and function
- the skin barrier
- collagen and dermal remodelling
- wound healing
- skin ageing
- Fitzpatrick phototypes and pigmentation risk
- scarring and acne scar types
- treatment indications and limitations
- client consultation and assessment
- contraindications and precautions
- scope of practice and referral
- infection prevention and sharps safety
- product selection
- equipment and treatment setup
- device and cartridge preparation
- selecting appropriate treatment depths
- treatment techniques and movement patterns
- treatment around delicate areas
- recognising appropriate treatment endpoints
- avoiding over-treatment
- expected post-treatment responses
- adverse reactions and when to refer
- aftercare
- treatment frequency and course planning
- cleaning, disinfection and storage
- clinical photography
- treatment documentation
Treatment planning
There is no single microneedling depth that is appropriate for every client or every area.
Treatment planning may be influenced by:
- the treatment objective
- anatomical area
- skin thickness and condition
- scar type and depth where relevant
- Fitzpatrick type and pigmentation history
- skin sensitivity and barrier condition
- previous treatment response
- client healing capacity
- device and cartridge being used
You will learn how to adapt treatment appropriately rather than using the same settings for every client.
Treatment technique
You will learn how to work methodically across the treatment area using appropriate movement patterns and controlled technique.
This includes:
- circular movements
- linear movements
- cross-hatch or transversal movements
- stamping where appropriate
- stretching the skin to create a stable treatment surface
- working safely around more delicate areas
- recognising when sufficient treatment has been achieved
The aim is not to create as much redness or bleeding as possible.
The aim is to create the right amount of controlled injury for the individual client.
Products used during microneedling
Where a product is used during microneedling, it must be suitable for use with the treatment.
Not every serum or skincare product that is safe on intact skin is appropriate for freshly microneedled skin.
The course covers:
- appropriate product selection
- product suitability
- hyaluronic acid and treatment slip
- use of professional active formulations
- product volumes
- safe drawing-up from vials where required
- avoiding unnecessary product waste
Microneedling is not injectable mesotherapy, and this course does not teach the injection of products into or beneath the skin.
Client safety comes first
You will learn not only when to treat, but when not to treat.
Training includes assessment of:
- medical history
- medication
- pigmentation risk
- wound-healing concerns
- previous aesthetic treatments
- scarring history
- active skin conditions
- suspicious or unexplained skin lesions
You will also learn when a concern is outside your scope of practice and should be referred rather than treated.
Aftercare and recovery
You will learn how to explain expected post-treatment responses and give appropriate aftercare.
This includes guidance on:
- protecting the skin barrier
- avoiding unnecessary irritation
- sun protection
- product use after treatment
- activities that may need to be avoided temporarily
- recognising when a reaction is outside the expected range
Treatment courses and frequency
Microneedling is commonly planned as a course rather than a one-off treatment.
Treatment intervals depend on factors such as:
- treatment depth
- treatment intensity
- treatment area
- treatment objective
- skin condition
- healing response
- sensitivity and pigmentation history
More frequent treatment does not automatically produce better results.
The skin must be allowed adequate time to recover and remodel between treatments.
What you will need
You will need access to a professional microneedling device and compatible sterile single-use cartridges.
You may also require:
- nitrile gloves and appropriate PPE
- professional cleanser
- suitable skin-preparation products
- sterile gauze and swabs
- treatment products suitable for microneedling
- sterile syringe and drawing-up needle where required
- suitable cleaning and disinfection products
- sharps container
- appropriate clinical-waste facilities
- disposable treatment consumables
Your trainer will confirm exactly what is required before your course.
