This course gives you a flexible route into professional facial treatments while also allowing you to progress towards a nationally regulated qualification.

You will begin by completing our comprehensive CPD Skincare and Facial Treatments course. This includes home study, practical training and five facial-treatment case studies.

Once you have successfully completed the CPD requirements, you will receive your CPD certificate. Subject to obtaining appropriate professional insurance and meeting any local requirements, you can then begin offering facial treatments while continuing towards the Focus Awards Level 2 Award in Skincare & Facial Treatments.

The CPD course and progression to the regulated qualification are included within the same course fee.

The course pathway

Your training is completed in two clear stages.

Stage 1: Complete the CPD Skincare and Facial Treatments course

You will complete:

• home-study learning;
• practical hands-on training;
• work on models during your training;
• five facial-treatment case studies;
• tutor assessment and feedback.

Once all five case studies have been completed successfully and approved by your tutor, you will receive your CPD certificate.

Stage 2: Complete the regulated qualification

After completing the CPD course, you can continue towards the Focus Awards Level 2 Award in Skincare & Facial Treatments.

The regulated stage requires you to complete:

• a workbook containing the required theory assignments;
• three practical observations;
• any additional portfolio evidence required by the qualification.

The regulated qualification will only be awarded once the workbook, observations and all required evidence have been successfully completed, assessed and quality assured.

Stage 1: Your CPD training

You will begin by working through your CPD course materials.

• extraction where appropriate;

• mask application;

• aftercare advice.

You will work on models so that you can practise adapting the treatment for different clients and skin presentations.

Five CPD case studies

Following your practical training, you will complete five facial-treatment case studies.

These case studies allow you to practise independently and demonstrate that you can:

• complete an appropriate consultation;
• assess the client’s skin;
• choose suitable products;
• perform the treatment safely;
• adapt the facial where required;
• provide appropriate aftercare;
• complete treatment records;
• reflect on your treatment and identify improvements.

Your tutor will review your case studies and provide feedback.

Once all five case studies have been successfully completed and approved, you will receive your CPD certificate.

When can you begin offering treatments?

You cannot begin offering treatments simply because you have attended the practical training.

You must first successfully complete the CPD course, including the five required case studies, and receive your CPD certificate.

Before treating paying clients, you must:

• obtain suitable professional insurance;
• confirm that your insurer accepts your qualification;
• meet any relevant local authority or licensing requirements;
• work only within the treatments and techniques covered by your training;
• follow professional health, safety and record-keeping requirements.

Once these requirements have been met, you may begin gaining professional experience while continuing towards the regulated qualification.

Stage 2: Your regulated qualification

After completing the CPD stage, you can continue towards the Focus Awards Level 2 Award in Skincare & Facial Treatments.

The regulated qualification requires additional theory and practical assessment.

You will complete:

• a workbook of written assignments;
• three practical observations;
• any further supporting evidence required by your assessor.

Assignment workbook

The workbook allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the qualification content.

It may include questions and assignments covering:

Client Care and Communication in Beauty-Related Industries

Assessment

The regulated qualification is internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence.

Your portfolio will include:
